Kay Kosak Abrams, Ph.D., Founder and Director

Kay Kosak Abrams, Ph.D., Founder and Director of Abrams and Associates, LLC, is a licensed psychologist in Maryland, since 1991. Her mission is to bring psychology to the community through speaking, writing, and media. Dr. Kay helps people handle the everyday challenges of life:

Her practice offers weekly individual psychotherapy to adults who are looking for growth and positive change for work, marriage and family.

She helps parents learn to raise children with less exhaustion and greater confidence, ending the cycle of threats, bribes, and endless arguing.

For adolescents and teens, she helps them deal with the anxiety, confusion, and vulnerability so often encountered during this important transition to young adulthood.

Dr. Abrams also supports and guides clinicians, such as social workers and newly licensed therapists, in gaining insight and wisdom to build their skill and practice as healers.


Ira Abrams, Ph.D., Manager 

Dr. Ira Abrams, Psychologist, Adults and Couples

Ira Abrams is a licensed Psychologist with 20 years experience providing individual, marital, and family psychotherapy. He works to enable clients to function adaptively and have more satisfying relationships. A collaborative approach is used to create the safety needed for growth and change. He integrates practical problem-solving skills and self exploration. Offering both short and long-term intervention, he helps clients develop better coping and stress management skills.

Dr. Abrams received his Doctorate from the University of Maryland at College Park and is a member of the American Psychological Association, the Maryland Psychological Association and the Association of Practicing Psychologists of Montgomery and Prince George's Counties.


Susan Grant, Office Assistant 

Susan Grant is our part-time Office Manager. She joined the office in 2008 as a way to hone her skills after being a full-time, stay-at-home Mom to her two elementary school-aged sons.

Susan has had much experience working in a professional environment, having worked in the fundraising field for over twelve years, beginning at the Kennedy Center and then at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.Susan’s responsibilities include patient scheduling, billing, and other administrative duties.



Sandra Lashley, PsyD, Associate

Dr. Lashley is a psychotherapist who works with individuals, couples and families experiencing a wide range of problems. These include concerns related to relationship and work stress (work/life balance), mood and anxiety disorders, marital difficulties and eating disorders. She also works with individuals experiencing long-standing struggles associated with identity, self-harm and trauma related issues.

Dr. Lashley obtained her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College in Maryland. She completed her internship training at the Counseling Center at Johns Hopkins University. She has several years of experience in the treatment of eating problems and has worked with individuals with various degrees of Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder. She has also worked with individuals with severe gambling addiction. Dr. Lashley is currently an affiliate faculty member at Loyola College in Maryland.


Nancy Gund, LCPC

Nancy Gund has 25 years of experience as a licensed professional counselor treating young children, adolescents, couples, and adults. She is an expert in the modality of play therapy for young children who experience issues of loss, anxiety, trauma and problem behaviors in the home or academic settings.

In her work with adults, Ms. Gund treats men and women with depression, anxiety disorders, career concerns, relationship and marital problems as well as parenting issues. She uses a variety of treatment orientations including psychodynamic, family systems, and cognitive depending upon what is most appropriate for the clients. Ms. Gund has an engaging style in moving clients toward positive change and growth.
