About Dr. Abrams

Kay Kosak Abrams, Ph.D., Founder and Director of Abrams and Associates, LLC, is a licensed psychologist in Maryland, since 1991. Her mission is to bring psychology to the community through speaking, writing, and media. "Dr. Kay" helps people handle the everyday challenges of life.

Her practice offers weekly individual psychotherapy to adults who are looking for growth and positive change for work, marriage and family.

She helps parents learn to raise children with less exhaustion and greater confidence, ending the cycle of threats, bribes, and endless arguing.

For adolescents and teens, she helps them deal with the anxiety, confusion, and vulnerability so often encountered during this important transition to young adulthood.

Dr. Abrams also supports and guides clinicians, such as social workers and newly licensed therapists, in gaining insight and wisdom to build their skill and practice as healers.

Meet the Practice

In addition to her private practice, she is clinical consultant and public speaker to schools and mental health agencies. Her areas of expertise are behavioral assessment and management of young children, parent coaching, adolescent psychology, and eating disorders. She is published frequently and appears on local radio and television talk shows. Her most recent endeavor is the launching of her It's Just Life! Lecture series on Compact Disks. For more information on these talks and how to order recordings of them, see our Audio CD page.

Code of Ethics

Licensed psychologists abide by strict ethical standards in accordance with guidelines from the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Psychologists. As a licensed psychologist I have honored and obliged all requirements for training and continued education in order to provide you with the best in mental health care.

Mission Statement

Positive change is born out of understanding and motivation. My work is not about a singular truth or a "right" versus "wrong" approach. My work is about assessing your unique situation and history to provide insights and strategies leading to your respective growth and change.

Vision

Psychological insights and wisdom should not be the privilege of just a few, nor saved only for those in crises. The field of psychology needs to move beyond hospitals and mental health centers, academic institutions, and the traditional medical model to become fully integrated into contemporary society. My vision is of a society where psychological understanding is widespread and individuals can create more positive relationships.
